18 teams contested the final Grand Prix of 2018 at Fochabers on 10 June. With only 8 lanes available at the terrain, a temporary piste was created in the carpark. It is great to see that support for our competition is increasing – it’s a good problem to have!
Pretty Vacant (Shirley Legge, Derek Adam and Robbie Stronach) played exceptionally well all day and secured GP3 with a perfect 6 wins, adding to their GP2 title won a few weeks before.
Les Champignons Sauvage (Mags Montgomery, Colin Montgomery, Dani Cassini and Matt Neilson) continued their strong showing in Grand Prix, taking second with 5 wins and pipped Triaxle (Emma Montgomery, Paul Fletcher & Kevin Johnstone) into 3rd place in the final match of the day. With both teams tied on twelve points at the end of the match, a final additional end was played and Les Champignons Sauvage took the point they needed.
As it turned out, the final end of that match would also determine which of the two teams would win the 2018 Grand Prix Series, meaning Les Champignons Sauvage capped a very consistent Series by taking the overall title. Due to the new points scoring system, which was designed to make the Grand Prix Series more competitive, it went down to the wire (in fact, it was as close to the wire as you can get!). A very exciting finish.
The results from Grand Prix 3 and the final standings are shown below. The top 12 teams from the GP Series have qualified for the 2018 Masters to be held at Inverleith PC on 13-14 October. The top 8 teams have qualified to represent Scotland at the 2019 Home Nations which we expect will be held in Wales. Congratulations to all of the qualifying teams and commiserations to those who missed out this time.
