SPA North v South 2011

The first SPA Competition of the 2011 Season is the NORTH v the SOUTH hosted by Perth Petanque Club at the North Inch in Perth.

“ANOTHER CLOSE AFFAIR”

Here we are again – the start of another Petanque season and on an early spring day of sunshine, cloud and the odd shower the SPA were hoping for a repeat of last years turnout of 55 players. We were not too disappointed, 44 happy bunnies emerged from winter hibernation – 15 from Inverness, 6 from Fochabers, 12 from Perth, 3 from Inverleith, 2 from the Bees, and 6 from Troon. An encouraging turnout.

Play commenced at 11:00, 6 triples and 2 pairs teams per side playing five rounds. Lunch was taken after two rounds with the match tied at 8 games all.

After lunch North powered away and after 4 rounds was leading by 20 games to 12.

South made a spirited comeback in round 5, winning 6 games but North held on taking the 2 games they required for victory.

So the end result was – NORTH 22 – SOUTH 18
