SPA Masters Report

The top 12 ranked teams from the 2015 Grand Prix Series contested the SPA Masters at Perth on 12/13 September. As ever, the Masters is highly competitive with places in next year’s Celtic Challenge, Women’s European Championships, Men’s World Championships and European Veteran’s Championships up for grabs.  The volunteers at Perth did a great job preparing the pistes and serving up delicious lunches on both days – a very big thank you to them.

As ever, the format was a round robin with 6 matches on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.

At the conclusion of play on Saturday, after a day of rain and wind, Triaxle were in the lead on 5 wins +25 with the Sex Pisteols in second on 5 wins + 16.  Five teams were snapping at the leader’s heels with 4 wins and so it was anyone’s competition.

As play on Sunday progressed, the lead changed hands several times.  In the end, Les Cremants emerged victorious, pipping the Sex Pisteols into 2nd with Pretty Vacant in 3rd only by virtue of less point scored.  Triaxle were 4th.  All 4 teams will be invited to represent Scotland at the 2016 Celtic Challenge in Wales.

Alison Swiffin, Christine Thomson and Mari Snell will therefore be invited represent Scotland at the 2016 European Women’s Championships.  Ed Strachan will be invited to form a team for the 2016 Men’s World Championships should Scotland qualify. The eligible players in the team will also be invited to represent Scotland at the 2016 European Veteran’s Championship.

Congratulations to the winners and qualifiers.
