Perth Petanque celebrated their 25th season at the Fenton Quaich Competition on Sunday 2nd August.

Players from Inverness, Fochabers, Perth, Inverleith, Birds & Bees, Tweed Valley, Troon and Ayr, 44 in all making up 16 pairs and 4 triples teams, congregated at our North Inch piste to cross boules for the coveted Fenton Quaich which was, fittingly, Perth Petanque’s first trophy!

The morning session was 3 timed games in 5 leagues of 4 teams. A buffet lunch was partaken at one o’clock to sustain the jouers for the afternoon and battle for the trophies on offer!

The top 8 teams from the morning’s leagues played a ‘Swiss System’ for the 25th Fenton Quaich and the remaining 12 teams, in leagues of 4 for the 25th Anniversary Cup, Plate and Consolation trophies.

The winners were –

25th Anniversary Fenton Quaich:-
1st – Robbie and John – Fochabers.
2nd – Ed and Alison – Perth.
3rd – Gordon and Pat – Inverness.
25th Anniversary Cup:-
1st – Lynn and Shirley – Fochabers.
2nd – John & Norma – Birds&Bees

25th Anniversary Plate:
1st – Stuart and Bill – Ayr/ (Troon/Tweed Valley)

25th Anniversary Consolation
1st – Paul and Carol – Inverleith.

After the prize presentation the 25th Birthday Cake was ceremoniously cut and shared out along with a small libation to mark the occasion!

The weather stayed fine and thanks not only to John and Derek for preparing the piste, Ed and Alison who devised and ran the competition and Ann for organizing the lunch but to all the players who attended and made Perth Petanque’s 25th Season Birthday bash a success and happy occasion.

Our next competition is the Frank Malcolm Melee on 30th August and we look forward to hosting the SPA Masters on the 12th and 13th of September.
