Seventeen teams attended Grand Prix 2 at Troon PC on 18 May. It was nice to several new faces and we very much hope they will continue to enter SPA competitions in the future. As ever, Troon put on a sumptuous spread including pasta and a huge variety of cakes and home baking which was very much appreciated by all the players. A very big thank you to Troon PC for again making us all feel so welcome.
On to the competition itself: Play was brisk thanks to the timed games, which was welcomed on what turned out to be a chilly day. With an odd number of teams, byes were required (which can be a curse or a blessing depending upon your viewpoint).
Strong showings from Pretty Vacant, Triaxle, Sex Pisteols and Champignons meant the competition went down virtually to the wire. In the end, the Pretty Vacant team of (confusingly) Paul Bretenoux, Robbie Stronach and Johnny Wilson were undefeated and worthy winners. Triaxle continued their great form with another second place putting them in the driving seat for the Grand Prix Series overall winners. The Sex Pisteols of (equally confusingly) Shirley Legge, Lynn Jenkins and Richard Carter finished in 3rd place with Champignons having to settle for fourth. The final results are:
