More to follow…
Once again the traditional season opener between the North & the South proved popular, despite the weather forecast with 55 players registering for the competition at Perth PC on 6th April. The players were divided into 10 teams on each side and 5 rounds were played. The results were as follows:
Round 1 – South 5 – North 5 (5-5)
Round 2 – South 4 – North 6 (9-11)
Round 3 – South 7 – North 3 (16-14)
Round 4 – South 6 – North 4 (22-18)
Round 5 – South 4 – North 6 (26-24)
So, in the end a narrow win for the South. Particular mention goes to Paul Bretenoux and Stephane Maurage who were the only team to remain undefeated.
The next SPA event is Grand Prix 1 on Sunday 27th April at Fochabers PC (registration 9.00 – 9.15 sharp for 9.30 start).
Fochabers PC have produced the itinerary for the Celtic Challenge, you can view it here.

All players please note: for forthcoming North v South competition (6th April – Perth Petanque Club) registration will be from 9.45 – 10.15 am with a 10.30 start. Perth PC will make Breakfast and Lunch available for purchase.
Robbie Stronach represented Scotland at the first Men’s World Singles in Nice at the weekend.
Despite losing his first game in the 5 round Swiss on day 1, Robbie rallied winning 3 of the remaining 4 games to secure a place in the last 16 to be played on day 2.
Robbie was drawn against a strong Tunisian and lost (his opponent ultimately reached the Semi Finals). However Robbie certainly put Scottish petanque in the limelight and did us all proud.
Well done lad!
The SPA are delighted to confirm that Scotland will be represented by Christine Thomson, Douglas Hamilton and Ed Strachan at the 2014 European Veteran’s Competition in Lulea, Sweden, in June.
Following yesterday’s NEC meeting the dates for SPA events are confirmed. The only 2 changes to the provisional calendar are Grand Prix 2 will be on 18th May and the AGM moves to 26th October. All other dates as per the provisional calendar. You can view the calendar with confirmed venues here.
The SPA are delighted to announce that Scotland has been offered a place at the Men’s Singles World Championship in Nice in January 2014. With no time to organise a qualifier the SPA unanimously agreed that Scotland will be represented by five times Scottish Singles Champion (including a current 3 year winning streak) Robbie Stronach. We offer Robbie our congratulations on his selection and wish him the very best of luck.
