The SPA would like to wish our own Robbie Stronach the very best of luck as he represents Scotland in the 1st Men’s World Singles in Nice this weekend. Some of the games will be streamed live on the FIPJP site: http://fipjp.com/fr/tv-stream-tete-a-tete
Following yesterday’s NEC meeting the dates for SPA events are confirmed. The only 2 changes to the provisional calendar are Grand Prix 2 will be on 18th May and the AGM moves to 26th October. All other dates as per the provisional calendar. You can view the calendar with confirmed venues here.
The SPA are delighted to announce that Scotland has been offered a place at the Men’s Singles World Championship in Nice in January 2014. With no time to organise a qualifier the SPA unanimously agreed that Scotland will be represented by five times Scottish Singles Champion (including a current 3 year winning streak) Robbie Stronach. We offer Robbie our congratulations on his selection and wish him the very best of luck.
The Birds & Bees invite you to their annual New Year Chuck Up on 2nd January 2014. Registration 11.30 for 12.00 start. Mince pies and coffee will be served.
It is that time of year again when we’d like to hear from clubs interested in hosting 2014 SPA competitions. The draft calendar has been added to the Calendar on this site (click here). All dates and venues are TBC.
To host an SPA event a club would require 8 pistes. We’d also like the host clubs to have someone available to help with registration etc..
Could interested clubs let me know the SPA events they’d like to be considered for and also the dates of club competitions they’d like included.
We’d appreciate it if you could feed information through as soon as you can.
We hope to have a reasonably complete calendar in place by our next NEC meeting, 26.01.14.
Can you also keep us updated with any changes that may be necessary to your club details as seen on the website?
Kind regards ….Lynn
The FIPJP have announced the first Men’s Singles World Championships in Nice on 31st Jan – 2nd Fen 2014. Europe have been allotted 18 places at the championships and it appears that the qualifying European nations will be determined from the final rankings in the recent CEP Men’s Triples European Championships. It is therefore unlikely that Scotland will be offered the opportunity to compete this time.
We hope that, for future events such as this, an appropriate qualification system will be put in place and that Women, Espoirs and Juniors will also be given the opportunity in time to compete in Singles at World Championship level.
Following his decision to step down from the National Executive Committee for 2013/14 the SPA have awarded a Life Membership to Douglas Hamilton.
Douglas introduced petanque to the Perth area initially by getting together with a group of friends and neighbours in the St. Martin/Balbeggie region. They initially played in their driveways on a rotation basis, sometimes playing at three different locations in one night.
Douglas and his neighbour David Blair founded Perth Petanque Club in 1990, playing for a short time at Perth College. They were successful in persuading Perth Council to build the permanent piste on the North Inch. Douglas has been regularly elected to of the SPA National Executive Committee and was President in 1995/96 and 2011/12.
The SPA would like to say a huge thank you to Douglas for his tireless work for both his club and the SPA.
The 2013 AGM was held at Perth Petanque Clubhouse on Sunday 21st October. The 2013/14 National Executive Committee (virtually unchanged from 12/13) can be viewed here
